River response to climate variability and land-use in the Bernese Alps during the last 2400 years

چکیده
Gently sloping surfaces for settlement are scarce in high mountains ranges and they are commonly related to distal parts of alluvial fans where floods hazards can be expected. To understanding the influence of external factors, such as climatic variability and land uses, on the alluvial fan accretion and flooding processes, sedimentology and pollen analysis from local site provide valuable data. Fluvial sedimentation is intermittent in time and space and sediments may be removed by subsequent reworking phases (Lewin and Macklin, 2003). Despite the discontinuities of these records, fluvial sediments provide accurate data about terrestrial environmental change such as hydrological regime, sediment supply and land use. The Alps, bordering mountains between the humid mid-latitudes with Atlantic influence and the Mediterranean subtropical zone, are especially sensitive to events of extreme precipitation and disastrous floods and to changes in the circulation of the atmosphere at global scale (Wanner et al., 2004; Pfister, 2004). Natural paleofloods result from excessive rainfall intensity and frequency, snowmelt, glaciermelt, precipitation combined with frozen soils etc. However, landuse can modify substantially mountain ecosystems and dynamics of river systems.

Analysis of land use changes in the middle Taleghan watershed during a thirty year period
In this study, land use change in the middle Taleghan watershed has been studied and analyzed. First, the land use map of Taleghan Mian watershed was prepared during the last thirty years in four years 1987, 1998, 2008 and 2017. Landsat satellite imagery was used to prepare land use map in four years. In this research, the hybrid classification method (combination of supervized and unsupervized...
متن کاملStreamflow Response to Climate Variability and Land‐ Cover Changes in the River Beça Watershed, Northern Portugal
This work analyses changes in the River Beça basin streamflow, an area with a typically Mediterranean climate, since the second half of the last century, evaluating trends in annual, monthly and extreme streamflow in the River Beça basin and relating them to precipitation variability and changes in land use and vegetation. Annual streamflow and precipitation are highly irregular, both in intra ...
متن کاملClimate change effects on wheat yield and water use in oasis cropland
Agriculture of the inland arid region in Xinjiang depends on irrigation, which forms oasis of Northwest China. The production and water use of wheat, a dominant crop there, is significantly affected by undergoing climate variability and change. The objective of this study is to quantify inter-annual variability of wheat yield and water use from 1955 to 2006. The farming systems model APSIM (Agr...

This edited volume is devoted to the examination of the implications of the inevitable changes wrought by global change on the welfare and livelihoods of tens of millions of people who live in dryland regions. Global change is more than just climate change and the ramifications of changing trade patterns (geopolitical and economic aspects), the shift to the market economy, demographic factors (...
متن کاملThe effect of land use and discharge changes on the coefficients of suspended sediment rating curve in Zagros forest areas
Extended abstract 1- Introduction The forests of the Zagros vegetation area cover about six million hectares (40%) of Iran's forest area, which is dominated by oak species. These forests are exposed to a number of threats, including land use change, deforestation, over grazing, deliberate and unintentional fires, pest and disease attacks, and climate change. Although accurate and timely...
